No 92 Shoulder Plane
Shoulder Planes
Manufactured to British Standards, Rutlands® hand planes are recommended by discerning cabinetmakers and carpentry instructors for their superb construction, finish and performance. Using world leading manufacturing techniques, each precision ground plane represents a serious alternative to the premium brands produced in North America. The shoulder planes use the classic Edward Preston design but have an adjustable mouth which closes for very fine shavings with minimal tearout and opens for coarse material. There is also a screw mechanism that easily allows the blade to be varied in depth relative to the sole to change the depth of cut. The planes have a narrow body design and the blades sit slightly proud for the cleaning out of corners.
No 92 Shoulder Plane

Materials & Manufacturing
The plane body features an unbreakable CR40 steel casting which is precision machined to ensure the sole is flat and square to the sides. The plane is fitted with a T10 high carbon steel tool blade which can take a keen edge, and that has been hardened to RC60-64 for maximum edge retention. The 15° low bed angle combined with the 25° blade bevel gives a cutting angle of 40° for exceptional end grain cutting performance. A stainless steel swan neck lever arm secures the blade to the plane to reduce chatter during use. ©
